This limited-edition vinyl record packaging design takes inspiration from the warm, emotionally candid sound of Dear Daria—a band known for blending nostalgic indie rock with heartfelt, diary-like lyricism. Their music often touches on themes of self-discovery, fleeting relationships, and the quiet tension between growing up and holding on.
The album's title, “Solastalgia,” comes from a combination of the Latin terms “home” and “pain/suffering.” It's a phrase that Philosopher Glenn Albrecht coined which is defined as “the homesickness you have when you are still at home.” I wanted to capture that sense of disquiet by utilizing striking, jagged gradients and moments of stark visual contrast. The color palette, bespoke photography, and contrasting visual elements work coalesce in a thoughtful package that encourages the listener to revisit the music again and again.
