Alor Vanitas is the first full-length release in six years from Endless Winter, the solo project of Washington, D.C.–based multi-instrumentalist Joshua Thomas Hunter. Following a series of EPs and singles, the new album expands on the project’s densely layered shoegaze riffs and textures, and is shaped by the themes of death, abandonment, anxiety, and fragmented realities.
For this release, I developed the complete packaging design for the physical edition. The visual direction draws directly from the album’s tonal landscape, pairing bespoke photography with atmospheric, ghostlike textures to evoke a sense of unease and transience. The typography floats around stark portraiture with baroque-inspired still life compositions, creating a visual tension that mirrors the music’s shifting emotional states. This interplay of imagery builds a symbolic narrative throughout the package, embedding each element with a sense of allegory while maintaining a cohesive, immersive aesthetic.
